India Getting Recognised as Major Medical Tourisim Hub

Records 150 percent growth

New Delhi: A whooping 150 percent growth in Medical tourism in India has registered , becoming the first choice for not only Indians living abroad (NRIs) but also foreign nationals.


Policybazaar report indicates that in financial year in FY 2024-25, unexpected increase in the number of NRI customers reflects the growing popularity as well as skills in the health sector.


Report displays that, compared to other countries like the US and the UK, treatment in India is of high quality and very cheap, due to which NRIs are now turning to India for high quality and affordable healthcare services.


The  huge difference in the cost of treatment in India and the US as per the report, in India, about Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh have to be spent for heart bypass surgery while in the US, it is about Rs 58 lakh to about Rs 1.25 crore have to be spent.


On the same of we take, knee transplant surgery costs, it is around Rs 3.3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh in India, while in US, it costs around Rs 24.9 lakh to Rs 41.5 lakh.


Liver transplant costs around Rs 20.75 lakh to Rs 29.05 lakh in India, while it costs around Rs 2.49 crore to Rs 4.15 crore in the US. 


Health insurance in India is also quite cheap, the report reveals,  The annual premium for an individual in India is around Rs 9,960 to Rs 24,900, while the same premium in the US is more than Rs 6.6 lakh and in the Gulf countries it costs around Rs 3.3 lakh to Rs 4.15 lakh. 
The share of customers below 35 years of age have increased by 148%. And the ratio of women m NRI customers has increased by 125%.
 The medical tourism destinations are not only metro cities like, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata but also Pune, Thane and South Indian cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad are becoming popular for NRI patients.


India's medical care is emerging as a major medical hub for NRIs across the world due to its affordable cost, excellent treatment and modern medical technology.
